The Finicky Pit Bull and the Restaurant
by Andrea
(Georgia, USA)
My husband took his regal looking pit bull, Samootz with him to work every day. They looked more like partners than leader and follower.
"Moo" would often sit in the front passenger seat of the truck instead of the back seat of this extended cab vehicle.
Every day these two went through the drive through of a local family owned diner. While my husband picked up his breakfast, lunch or just a sweet tea at the window, the women who ran the place would sweet talk Moo, trying to make friends with him. Moo ignored them while he either stared nonchalantly out the front window or lovingly at his dad.
Desperately wanting to become friends, one day they asked if they could give the aloof pit bull a dog biscuit.
"You can try" said my spouse.
The finicky pit bull refused it. The gal asked my husband to give Moo the biscuit. Still, the persnickety canine refused the dog treat.
My husband laughed and told the woman that his wife (that would be me) had him on a special diet of homemade dog food and that if they had a carrot, he would eat it with relish.
Time marched on. No carrots appeared. Apparently the women thought he was making a joke. All five of our dogs love carrots!
Then it happened. Picking up his lunch at the window, Anne, one of the owners handed my husband two bags instead of one.
He looked at her inquisitively. "This bag" she said, "is for Moo. See if he'll eat that." He opened the bag right then and there. To his amusement and Anne's delight, the bag had Moo's full attention. Inside the bag was a quarter pound hamburger patty cooked to perfection!
Finally, they were friends. Every day after that, Moo jumped to the back seat going up to the window where he stuck his head out for a pet and the hopes of another free lunch!
