King Charles Spaniel
Description This breed is a great companion dog. Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland (1630-1685) was very fond of this type of dog and hence why the dog is now known as the King Charles Spaniel. Also known as the English Toy Spaniel, this is a small dog with a pug nose with long low set ears with feathering at the ends which differentiates it from the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Temperament This dog breed is extremely affectionate, loyal with a gentle nature and eager to please. They are usually quiet and rarely bark.
Appearance Height: 30-33cm (12-13in) Weight: 3.5 - 6.5kg (8-14lb) This breed has a long silky coat, often wavy coat in black and tan, ruby, blenheim (red and white) and tricolour.
Grooming Requires daily brushing, bathing as required. Trim nails on a regular basis.
Life Expectancy 10 - 12 years
Health This breed is prone to heart defects, eye problems, slipping of the kneecaps and fused toes.
Suitability The breed is suitable for families and individuals. The King Charles Spaniel gets along with other pets and needs little exercise. This breed makes an excellent companion dog.
