Q Could you please provide some dog breed information. What is a good dog breed for a beginner, who has a medium to large sized yard and will want to take his dog on daily jogs? A Could we suggest a Golden Retriever. They love nothing more than being part of the family and to live its life as a family member rather than being a kennel dog. This very amenable breed has a steady, kind disposition. Needing to spend a lot of time with people, they enjoy interacting with humans and are not over-active like many large dogs can be. As with most dogs they get highly excitable when the family first arrives home, running around greeting everyone with great enthusiasm, then after 5-10 minutes they will settle down. The Golden Retriever is a gentle-natured and patient dog with children. These dogs require exercise and once fully grown are going to need to be taken on walks to be kept in good condition.
Q I am looking for a small dog that is good with very young children, doesnt yap much and is easily trainable. What kind of small dog is a good breed?A The Boston Terrier or Pug would be most suitable and you can read more about these and other dogs in our Dog Breed information section. Q Do you think a Labrador is a good dog to have around a 2 year old baby? A I personally would get a puppy because I think it would be great for it to grow up together with your baby and here are some reasons why. Labradors are their happiest when they are with you. They are loving, people oriented dogs. They are wonderfully patient with children and make a great addition to any family. Not known for their guard dog qualities they may bark quite protectively but will generally not act more aggressively than that. They take many things in their stride, are very stable not getting upset by strange things or occurrences and would more than likely lick someone to death than hurt them. As indicated by their use as guide dogs, drug and bomb detector dogs their superior stability of temperament and trainability makes them one of the most popular choices for a family pet.
Q Can Siberian Huskies survive in hot weather?A They would survive in the weather however, could be prone to hot spots developing on their skin under their thick coat, which could be a problem and make the dog feel very uncomfortable.
Q I have a mixed breed dog, how long do these dogs live to be?A Just as long as any other dog if looked after correctly and given lots of love, exercise and good quality dog food without too many preservatives and additives.
Q I live in the country with lots of space and already have a Beagle. I want to get a second dog and would prefer a sweet, family dog that is easy to train, but I don't know what kind I want?A How about a Labrador Retriever, this breed seems to fit what you are looking for and you can read more about this dog in our Dog Breed Information Section.
