American Cocker Spaniel

Description
The attractive looking American Cocker Spaniel was bred in
America in the 19th century from Cocker Spaniels imported from Britain.
The smallest of the gundog breeds, their main job was to retrieve game
birds. Now however, they are more ofent seen as an appealing family pet.
They still remain one of
the top ranked breeds in popularity all over the world.

The busy American Cocker Spaniel is gentle and affectionate,
full of life, exuberant and friendly and just thrives on human
companionship, wanting nothing more than to please its owners. Well

children and other animals and are well known for their easy going
nature.

Requiring a moderate amount of care grooming, it is
important to keep their coat clean and free of knots at all times and is
easily done by daily brushing and bathing once a week. Basic trimming to
be undertaken on a regular basis, including the cutting of nails,

Health Concerns
Because of their
long ears, ticks and burrs can be concealed behind them as well as
providing a warm, damp environment for infections. Night-blindness is
known in the breed. They can become gluttons if permitted and will put
on weight very quickly and it is advisable to monitor their diet.
Always try to feed
quality dog food to ensure a healthy happy dog.

An excellent
companion because of their adaptability, whether kept inside or outside
the house. Requiring regular daily exercise such
as a walk or an energetic game, they are good swimmers and great watch
dogs. Great with families and older people, these dogs are adaptable
and robust.
